For the past two years, I've been working very hard on an exciting new, multimedia initiative:
Philanthropy Project.
Its mission is to use the moving image to inspire you to become a philanthropist. We plan to do that by telling you
the true, untold stories of America's 72,000 charitable foundations and their good works ... stories of Americans helping Americans in smart, successful ways.
In these tough economic times, I don't believe we can depend on big government or big business to solve pressing human needs that have plagued us for decades.
Rather ...
we need to help each other.
Philanthropy Project has three parts: a motion picture,
Web TV channel, and film scholarship competition.
After two years of combing America for true stories of philanthropy, we've chosen to base our motion picture on
11-year-old Zach Bonner, founder and president of the Little Red Wagon Foundation. Zach is an ordinary kid with an extraordinary heart for helping others.
We'll soon be launching our Web TV channel ... the #1 entertaining, inspiring, and helpful one-stop shopping center for "citizen philanthropists." That's my term for ordinary people who aren't millionaires or billionaires, but who wish to donate their time, talents, and treasure to impove their parts of the world by just a little bit.
Our Web TV channel will include the latest scientific headlines that show how
selflessness leads to a happier, healthier, longer life. Scientists call it the "Warm Glow Effect." Our project calls it "Give and Glow."
I'll tell you more in my next letter. For now, if I've piqued your interest in what I'm up to these days,
then go to
Philanthropy Project's interim site:
www.giveandglow.com
Until next time ...
Way to glow!
Michael
